Armacao Algarve Apartment

The Algarve - Sun, Sea & Relaxation

Lovers of the Algarve are divided into two . Those who have been coming for years. Those yet to experience it's beauty & friendly atmosphere who will no doubt fall in love when they visit and return  year after year.

The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal and it's one of Europe's favourite holiday destinations well known for glorious year round sunshine and excellent sandy beaches. There are about 100 sandy attractive beaches washed by the Atlantic Ocean and due to the maritime shelf and water currents the sea temperature can be often be surprisingly warm even in some of the winter months. Located on the tip of Europe with the vast ocean of the Atlantic as its southern and western border, this enviable position gives this region possibly the most unpolluted climate in the European continent.

Armacao de Pera

Armacao is a beautiful blend of old & new. The local fishermen still sell fish from their boats &  the old town remains with it's cobbled streets & small restaurants. Yet there are modern blocks of apartments. However along with the modern apartments comes wide roads & modern Supermarkets.

Let's do a quick overview of the main areas of interest; more details will follow later.

Beaches. The main beach is huge. Miles of golden sands is certainly no exaggeration. So for those who want to get to the beach quickly, just walk across the road and there it is. If you want to be near bars that's no problem. If you want more seclusion then walk east and the crowds soon thin out and disappear (off season the main beach is pretty quiet anyway). If you have a car, then about 10-15 minutes west of Armacao are a string of coves, some hidden, each with their own character. This is what is great about the Algarve, if your willing to put in a little effort, the variety of beaches is fantastic. From hidden smugglers coves to shallow green waters for snorkelling, it has it all.

Bars and Restaurants. Well there are plenty of them which is good. Fish being the main focus of most restaurants, the quality is very good, and the prices reasonable. Try as many as possible. From local run back street fish restaurants, to British owned mediterranean style, from Chinese to Indian Armacao is certainly not short of quality food. Bars tend to open more seasonally, with fewer open in the off season. There are so many restaurants open even in Winter . Restaurants are obliged by law to offer "A meal of the Day" However in Armacao many restaurants offer a "Tourist Menu", 3 courses with wine, coffee & brandy for €10-12.

Sports , Golf & Bowls

Of course the Algarve is famous for its many Golf Courses & there are so many close to Armacao.Silves 10 mins, Salgados 10 mins, Vilamoura & Penina about 30 minutes drive away, and now 5 minutes from the luxury Amendoeira golf resort with two championship courses design by Nick Faldo & Christie O'Connor opened in 2008.Possibly the newest & largest golf resort in Europe . Both O'Connor & Faldo courses . And the 1st Crown Green Bowling Club in the Iberian Peninsula. Also Flat Green Lawn Bowls.

For the Children

If the beautifull beach is not enough ,other leisure activities include Zoomarine with its various shows, eateries and childen's rides. There are two water slide parks, 'The Big One' near Porches is about 10 mins drive and 'Slide and Splash' in Lagoa is just 15 mins away. The sand sculpture exhibition situated behind Pera is 10 mins away.
